Adventure in Perspective (1)

One thing we all have in common is a drive for adventure in some form or another. For some of us, it’s strong, calling to us constantly, itching to change our environment. The desire boils to the point where we struggle to be in one place for long. For others, it is a softer call, satisfied by taking time for small adventures. Whether solo or with companions, local or far away. But what matters here is that we all have it.

Everyone lusts to gain an understanding of their surroundings. To view the world outside of how it is presented to them.

Aidan Donovan is one of those adventurers who craves rapid change. Born on the east coast and raised in southern California, he’s come to appreciate both the crowded city and quiet suburbs.

“It doesn’t matter where you’re going. But what matters is if you’re going to a place you’ve been before or never been before,” Said Aidan. “You’re doing it with people you like or love and it’s about, you know, looking at something new, finding something new. Or returning to something that you love.”

It’s true, adventure has two folds like that. It’s thrilling to visit a new place. Some feel the most comfort planning out every step while others will wing it and see where the universe takes them. Returning to old places we adore holds a special magic, reminding us of past times and comfort. But never without the promise of new stories to bring home.

“You learn about different places and the world is not so black and white,” Said Aidan. “You can see similar aspects of Dublin in different European cities, but every culture is unique and it’s interesting to see how people live differently.”

Last year Aidan traveled to Dublin, Ireland. He commented that while it was completely different from California, there are still things you could find in common with it. There was still a way to relate either to the landscape or the people.

In the end, adventure is an essential part of life. We can’t expand our worlds without it. Whether taking small steps to visit local or familiar places or big steps to go to new countries, we owe it to ourselves to explore. To step outside and look around every once in a while before it’s over, because life will pass us by pretty fast. It’s up to us to put ourselves out there.
